Appalling , Spineless "The Hindu"....
A love and hate relationship, i should say. Love it for the standards that they try to maintain , though i find that, of late they seem to have petered them down. Hate it, for being a leftist mouthpiece. The following sums up their editorial standards:
1. Never ever object the Left
2. Indulge in subtle Anti-US bashing.
3. Anything to do with the majority is a strict no-no.
4. Post Jaya Fiasco - Pander to whims and fancies of the government in power, like any other pliant institution
The nail in the coffin was todays Chennai edition. Any sane publication would have held Mr Rationalist and his cohorts, including the Reds, responsible for the mayhem that they had created. I was dumbfounded that not even a mention was made in the editoral. Spineless i should say. My gut feel would be that they would end up reprimanding the Supreme Court for the "Judicial Excess". This might follow in a day or two. I say, they should rather introspect and find their "Editorial Deficiency" within.
The problem with most other publications is that they have debased themselves to being tabloids. The problem with the "The Hindu" being that they have become very predictable. One doesn't need to go through the newspaper to know their opinion. By and Large they inadvertently follow the 4 tenets mentioned above,.
All this vitriolic from a guy whose ideological compass says "You are a Left-Liberal" . It's altogether a different story that anybody with humanistic tendencies is classified as a Left-Liberal. I wonder how a right-winged individual would react to The Hindu's "Leftist Excess".
Guess I need to read an eclectic mix of publications. Editorial from the Indian Express, Magazine of "The Hindu". These are tough times indeed for readers...

Unfortunately what you say is true.. for people like me for whom 'the hindu' is as integral a part of life as the morning coffee, its a fact hard to digest .. especially when they ridiculously pander to minorities ..

Indian express is not a bad alternative in my opinion..
