Another trip...
Back to tirunelveli..it was hot..the western taluks weren't as green as they used to be..but the people made up for all the disapointment..u meet guys in a tiger reserve (a supposedly rustic bloke)who goes on a discourse on US-India relationship..a guy who is worried about the hole in the ozone layer..a law student who cares for the small stream flowing in his town..it was too good..as far as i am concerned, had a nice bath in a small rivulet flowing inside a tiger sanctuary.. the rickety bus rides..guess i am satiated for the moment..

Hi, I am from Ayikudi, Varathayyan Gramam and was fascinated to read about your trip and your wish to settle down in Varathayyan Gramam. Do you have any relatives/friends in Ayikudi?
NM
Hi,
this is my visit to your blog and that was due to your blog title. I was born and brought up in Ambasamudram, now working in bangalore. I wish I could go back to Ambai. Anyway, worth the first visit. cheers..
Hi, I could not resist posting a response after seeing Varadhaiyan Gramam, Ayikudi. I am from Varadhiyyan Gramam. I can vouch that it is a great place to settle down.

Hi ,
This was probably the first comment left by anyone for that matter. My grandmother was born and bought up in varthaiyer gramam th8 might visit that place.i guess it must be some agraharam types. There is a dilapidated house where one MR swamiji of acchankoil stayed..that's the place where my granny was born n brought up.
Hi,
As one associated with the house in which Swamiji Krishna of Achankovil stayed, I am interested to know more about you and "the granny" who was born and brought up in that house. Shall be glad if you introduce yourself.
Hi Anonymous,
i am VIjay. My grandmother's name is Meena. She had 2 siblings if i am right. One was Mr kalyana..(my dad used to call him kalyana mama).he had 3 kids (chandru..jayashree and sharadha).kalyana mama is no more, but the house is still his. the other person was subramanian (my guess again).ppl used to call him mookandi mama.i am the eldest son of Meena's eldest son(my dad is referred to as kannan among his relatives).guess this would do.Would be glad if you could reveal ur identity too.
Well Vijay, Let me take a wild swing here!! I guess you have missed out two of your grandmother's siblings. One is living in Madurai and another in SFO.
You may be wondering, how do I know that... Well, I am born to one of them; that makes your dad, kannan, my cousin. Would like to touch base with you sometime, perhaps by email - CV
yeah that was a big big mistake from me.i knew most of you guys by name.even seen you on a few occasions, but my memory couldn't serve me right yesterday.but i was not aware of my granny's sibling in SFO.you can mail me at elpostvijay@yahoo.com
Hi Vijay & Anonymous
You guys touched my heart when yu talk abt Ayikudi. I am from Kadayam and my aunt(Periyamma)are from Ayikudi and they still live there. I always used to go to Ayikudi for summer holidays! and I remember the Subramanya swami koil, the padippayasam, the great bhajans and a wonderful life with no electricity in most houses. It is an evening chore to clean and light up Hurricane lamps.I remember playing cricket in the backyards with lots of corn harvest around!. It is a great nostalgia. Although I studied in Tirunelveli, I remember going to Ayikudi till I was 15 every year! for summer!. Itused to be so green, lots of Hindu cultural activities-bhajans, poojas, festivals in temple, unjavrithi etc. I cherish the good old memories that our kids really miss!.

Hi,
My name is Subbu and I now live in Chennai. Only about a year back we got to know that Ayikudi Bala Subramanyar is our Kula deivam and I along with my family went o the temple last year. We are again going next week.
I agree the place is very charming , albeit without much facilities for visitors like us.. Tried my best to read up about the temple on the internet... but very little info available. Also while I had a local help at Ayikudi,, I wish I had a lot more information.
I was also quite sad to see the state of the temple tank - famous for the Padi Payasam I am told.. I feel a lot can be done to make the place better.. ANd last but not the least... yes its my dream to own a small place there. My late father is from that place and I really wish I could have a place to call my own.
It may be nice if all of us who are either from Ayikudi or have some lineage ... form a group and see how we can collectively do some thing
Last but not the least... can any one give me a photo / picture of Ayikudi Bala Subramaniar
